Types of Membership
IIM Bangalore Library offers membership facilities for Research Scholars, Academicians, Academic Institutions, Corporate firms, and IIMB Alumni. Renewals to current memberships are subject to approval by a competent authority.
Please note membership is offered for accessing print and e-content only.
Please go through the following matrix to know the eligibility and criteria for availing of membership. All procedures for processing membership are handled only on weekdays between 10 am and 5 pm.
I)
Membership with borrowing privileges:
Alumni
Alumni: All alumni who are offered an Alumnus card from the IIMB Alumni office are eligible to avail of this membership. However, the borrowing privileges will be extended to those who are residents of Bangalore and able to produce documents to validate their residency. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.
Documents required:
- Alumnus Card from IIMB Alumni office
- Local Address proof (any of the following documents will suffice the requirement)
- Aadhar Card
- Voter ID
- Driving License
- Electricity Bill
- Gas Refill Receipt

Academic Institutes
IIM Bangalore Library offers membership facilities for Academic Institutes: State, Central, and Private Universities, Business schools, and colleges affiliated with the universities are eligible. We need a letter from the Dean / Registrar / Principal of the respective institutions requesting membership. Please note that only doctoral students and faculty are eligible to use the reference card. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.
Documents required:
- Photographs (2 nos) of Librarian / In-charge of Library / HR Head
- Local Address proof (any of the following documents will suffice the requirement)
- Registration Office Address
- Copy of PAN / GST
- Letter from Head of Organization
- Electricity Bill

Non-Profit Organizations
IIM Bangalore Library offers membership facilities for Government Hospitals, Research Institutes, Archives, National Charities, Foundations, etc, are eligible for memberships. NGOs must produce 12A and 80G registrations. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.
Documents required:
- Non-profit registration
- Photographs (2 nos) of Librarian / In-charge of Library / HR Head
- Local Address proof (any of the following documents will suffice the requirement)
- Registration Office Address
- Copy of PAN / GST
- Letter from Head of Organization
- Electricity Bill
Who are not eligible?
Membership is not extensible to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students.

Government Organizations
IIM Bangalore Library offers membership facilities for Employees of state and central government organizations based in Bangalore are eligible for membership. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.
Documents required:
- Letter from Head of Department
- Photographs (2 nos)
- Employer ID Card
- PAN Card

Doctoral Students
IIM Bangalore Library offers membership facilities for Doctoral Students. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.

Ph.D. enrolment letter
Letter from the Guide/Registrar/Dean of the institute
Passport size photographs – 2 nos
Copy of PAN / Aadhar Card
Who are not eligible?
Membership is not extensible to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students.

Working / Retired Professionals
IIM Bangalore Library offers membership facilities for Working Professionals from private and public institutions are eligible for membership. To avail of membership with borrowing privileges, individuals must provide their proof of employment and residence along with an introduction by any member of the staff or faculty member of IIMB who is currently employed with the institute. This is applicable also for any renewals of the membership. Please note that the institute evaluates eligibility criteria, and the library reserves its right to accept or deny the membership application. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.
Documents required:
- In the case of professionals working in the corporate sector, a letter from the HR head and an introduction by an IIMB employee are mandatory.
- If self-employed or proprietor of a business entity or a retired professional, introduction from any IIMB employee is mandatory.
- Passport Size Photograph (2 nos).
- Local Address proof (any of the following documents will suffice the requirement)

Please Note:
- You must send an email to library@iimb.ac.in one week before your visit to collect your cards.
- You may download the application form and send it along with the requisite documents to library@iimb.ac.in. Upon receipt of your application and evaluation of the criteria for offering the membership, we will send you a link to make the payment. After making the payment, please share the transaction ID. Once the payment is over, we will email you to collect your cards.
- This membership involves only a borrowing facility and reference to the print collection. Borrowing privileges do not include articles, data, reports, etc., from our electronic collection.
- Access to our library and memberships are governed by the rules and regulations of the IIMB library, which are revised from time to time as approved by the competent authority.
II) Membership without borrowing privileges:
Apart from Organizations and institutions, IIMB offers individual membership to researchers, working professionals, and faculty who are affiliated with any educational institute within India for research or instruction for a day (Wednesday).
Research scholars
Research scholars: IIM Bangalore Library offers one-day membership facilities for Doctoral Students. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.
Research scholars are required to bring the following documents:
- Research Student ID card
- Ph.D. enrolment letter
- Letter from the Guide/Registrar/Dean of the institute
- Passport size photographs – 2 nos
- Government ID proof - PAN/Aadhar/Driving License etc.(any one)
Faculty/Academicians
Faculty/Academicians: IIM Bangalore Library offers one-day membership facilities for Faculty/Academicians. Apart from the print collection (except for the Thesis/dissertation), we will only provide the onsite browsing facility for selected journals and eBooks for one hour on Wednesday with a prior appointment.
Faculty/Academicians are required to bring the following documents:
- The institute’s ID or Ph.D. enrolment ID
- Government ID proof - PAN/Aadhar/Driving License etc.(any one)

Visitors are expected to:
- Respect private and institute property within IIMB premises.
- Abide by all Institute and Libraries’ policies and terms of access to our library
- Must show valid identification and library membership ID upon request.
- Use library resources for academic purposes only.
- Access is limited to the library premises and does not extend to other departments of IIM Bangalore.

- One-day membership charges is Rs.50/- (18% of GST will be added to the library service charges).
